Aruba Eclipse
Marathon a reality!
The 1998 Aruba Eclipse Marathon has been confirmed.The marathon will begin south of
Oranjestad to the roundabout near San Nicolas. Half-marathoners will turnaround in Pos
Chiquito. Both events will start simultaneously; Aid stations will be placed approximately
every two miles, beginning at mile 2. In addition to water, stations at mile 10 and 12
will offer special equipment to allow safe viewing of the eclipse for marathoners who wish
to stop running during totality.
Awards will be presented to the following:
* top 3 men and women overall in both events.
* top male and female Aruba residents in both events
* marathoners finishing before the end of eclipse.
* half-marathoners finishing before totality ends.
* T-shirts to all marathon and half marathon entrants.
* certificates and medals to all marathon and half marathon finishers.

Aruba Global Games to be
held in May 1998
Aruba Global Games soccer tournament will be held May 27th through May 31st, 1998.
According to Mr. Chido Henriquez, Director of the Special Events Department of the Aruba
Tourism Authority and Vice President of the organizing committee, "The games are an
international soccer tournament with the objective to create an effective cultural
exchange program involving sports
and tourism." Some of the names of the 26 professional soccer players
who could be coming to Aruba include, Stanley Menzo (LierseSK),
Regilio Vrede (Rode JC), Marciano Vink (PSV), Mario Metchiot (AFC Ajax),
Ken Jetiens (Sparta), Gaston Taument (Benfica), and Orlando Trustfull (Vitesse).

Aruba could be next site
for Shell Golf Tournament
Aruba could become the next host for "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf" 1998
competition. During a breakfast buffet held at the Ventanas del Mar Room at Tierra del Sol
Clubhouse, Monday, February 9th, Mr. Jerry Jastrow, President of Jack Nirklau's
Productions and Executive Producer of the Shell series, introduced the intention of
holding this match in Aruba this summer (June). According to Mr. Jastrow, in 1998, Shell's
Wonderful World of Golf will consist of five shows and will continue to stand up to its
billing as 'the best players
in the world competing head to head on 'the world's most exciting golf courses' -Great
players, great golf courses, exotic locations, and a great history become part of the
highest level of Production. The exposure that Aruba would receive would be
unprecedented. It would be covered by ESPN and broadcast during prime time. It could be
the most outstanding exposure and marketing opportunity we might ever have says Garry
Pollard, Director of Real Estate at Tierra del Sol.

Get on up once more
with Sinbad's Soul Music Festival
For the second consecutive year, Aruba will host the largest musical festival of its kind
on memorial day Weekend, May 20, through May 25 1998.
According to Sinbad "I'm pleased to be returning to Aruba and all our friends there
