A few weeks ago students who were leaving our island to continue their studies abroad, began with the work in the educational garden of Arikok National Park by planting 'Palo di Boonchi Strena'. On Friday August 21, students in the first year of Financial Economic Faculty (FEF), University of Aruba, continued with the work and planted different trees in the garden. Among the trees which were planted, were 'Palisia Blanco', 'Kibrahacha', 'Palo di Boonchi', 'Huliba', 'Kedebeshi', 'Dabaruida', 'Curahout', 'Brasil', 'Azufro', Very few of these trees are left on our island, which is the case with 'Azufro' and 'Brasil'. Office members of Arikok National Park's Project were very happy with the initiative taken by the Dean of the Faculty, Harry Wenting and students in giving a hand towards the progress of the Educational Garden. It is great to see how students with higher studies, are contributing with lots of enthusiasm towards an educational project for elementary and high school students
Irish theatrical group to perform "Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern" in Aruba The theatrical group "Donegal Theater Company" will be coming to Aruba for FITA (Festival, International of Theater of Aruba) to be held between September 26 and October 3 of this year. The company, a member of the Irish center of IATA (International Association of Amateur Theater) will present the play "Rosenkranz and Guildenstern" written by William Gilbert and directed by Paul Buckley. This play has won the 'best play' seven times consecutively in different drama festivals in Ireland and was twice awarded best actor and also best actress. The play also won the top award of the "All Ireland Drama Finals" and also the the "outstanding contribution" award in 1997. The play is a comedy based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. It depicts Hamlet going crazy causing his mother to ask Rosenkranz and Guildenstern to come to court to bring happiness back to Hamlet's life. But Rosenkranz has other ideas - he falls in love with Ophelia and makes plans to remove Hamlet from Elsinore with a scheme that involves a bad theatrical production with Hamlet in the leading role and judged by his uncle Claudius who wrote the play. The production is visually entertaining and lots of fun! Ticket sources and prices will be announced closer to the date.
On the evening of August 25th at Kokoa Beach Bar (in front of the Palm Beach Resort), the seven-man Dutch band 'De Dijk' played their hearts out before 400 fans who clearly knew all their songs by heart. Among the songs played were "Bloedend Hart" which had the crowd waving their hands in the air and "Als ze er niet is" which had great participation from the audience with everyone singing along. The opening act was local group 'Talent Ltd.', entertaining the crowd by playing their classic rock numbers with fiery enthusiasm. They closed their show with Queen's unforgettable "Crazy little thing called love". Kokoa Beach Bar's Natasha Nahar and Basiel Lammers and their crew of Frankie, Jan, Ron, Ricky, Danilo, Inge and Loes agree their night could not have been better. The crowd was very well-behaved and everybody enjoyed De Dijk's music to the max.
